The aims and objectives of the Basic H2S Training are to ensure that the delegate gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of H2S, and appropriate emergency response actions to take should an H2S related incident arise.
Course Content:
- Hydrogen sulphide – how it is formed and where it is found
- Properties, characteristics, measurement parameters and occupational exposure limits of
H2S - Factors affecting individual susceptibility to H2S
- Types of detector equipment, types of respiratory equipment
- Pre-use checks of personal detection devices and EBA
- Operating personal H2S detection equipment (including checks)
- Donning & operating (including checks) an escape breathing apparatus (EBA) with a mask within 30 seconds
- Donning & operating (including checks) an EBA with a hood within 30 seconds
- Connecting and disconnecting to and from a pressurized cascade breathing system
Learning Outcomes:
- H2S routes of exposure, as well as the proper selection, use, and maintenance of personal and respiratory protective equipment;
- Workplace warnings, practices, and maintenance procedures to protect personnel from exposure to H2S.
- H2S detection and monitoring systems;
- Emergency response procedures, corrective actions, and shutdown procedures which may be necessary in the event of a H2 S emergency.
