This course is designed to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance skills, enabling tasks to be performed by lifting and slinging components and equipment in a safe and correct manner.
Objectives:
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Recognize safe working loads and lifting capabilities and limitations
- Recognize safe working procedures
- Recognize the recommended crane signals.
- Selecting and using chains and chain slings
- Using ‘Safe Working Load’ Charts
- Slinging and moving loads
- Calculating the weights and centers of gravity of loads and taking these factors into account of slinging and moving same

- Communication (Use of hand signals)
- An introduction to PUWER and LOLER Regulations, including the need for training and causes of accidents.
- Planning the lifts
- Machinery (Mobile and Tower Cranes)
- Types of slings (wire rope, round and webbing and chain slings)
- Sling load capacity and sling angles
- Lifting accessories and handling attachments
- Choice of sling
- Knots
- Center of gravity
- Slinging loads in a safe and efficient manner and protecting the load and sling
- Safe working practice
- Recognized method of signaling
- Written assessment
